What are Heel
Spurs and What Causes Them?
Heel spurs
which are also know as a calcaneal spur is a growth of
calcium which usually forms near the heel bone area where
the plantar fascia attaches to the heel. A Heel spur is
often a sharp boney protruding structure that can press
against sensitive tissues causing
foot pain.
Pronation and
Supination are often contributing factors to abnormal
stress and wear of the plantar fascia and can cause pain,
inflammation, and swelling causing the plantar fascia to
eventually tear away from the heel. Heel spurs usually
develop where this tear occurs.
Heel spurs or
bone spurs in the heel are a very common cause of
heel pain in adults with extreme foot arches like
flat feet or high arches. Many times heel spurs or bone
spurs are accompanied by other painful conditions including
plantar fasciitis,
heel pad loss,
Achilles tendonitis,
arch pain, and other foot related medical conditions.
Many of these
common foot problems and causes of heel pain are
prevalent in people who spend too much time on their feet,
in athletes who participate in high impact sports, in people
who are overweight or obese, and in people with
poor circulation in the feet, although these factors are
not always the cause of heel spurs. Heel spur pain is
usually the most painful when first attempting to walk after
sitting or resting.
Another highly probable cause of heel spurs and a
contributing factor of heel pain is thought to be wearing
shoes that offer little or no arch support or heel
protection.
What are the Most Common Treatments
for Heel Spurs:
There are
many treatments for heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, and heel
pain. In cases of severe pain it is always recommended
you see a doctor. For temporary or in some cases,
prolonged relief, many sufferers of heel spurs have turned
to replacement shoe insoles. Other treatments may
include night splints, ultra sound shock wave therapy,
elevating the foot, icing the foot, or even surgery to
remove the heel spur.

How Can Foot Relief
Shoe Insoles Help Relieve Heel Spur Pain?
In many
cases where a patient has foot pain caused by heel spurs or
plantar fasciitis, health care professionals will often
recommend supplementing treatment with a heel cushioning
device or even a full length insole that provides
arch support and heel padding. Many sufferers of
heel spurs have turned to Foot Relief
liquid filled shoe insoles for heel spurs as the
shoe inserts of choice for helping to relieve heel pain.
Liquid filled shoe insoles absorb much more shock than
standard foam insoles and massage the feet which increases
circulation. This massaging action is very helpful in
the healing process of heel spurs.
