What are Bone
Spurs and What Causes Them?
Bone spurs
are a growth of
calcium which forms primarily near the heel area where
the plantar fascia attaches to the heel. However a
bone spur can also develop on other areas of the foot. A Bone spur is
often a sharp boney protruding structure that can press
against sensitive nerves and tissues causing
foot pain.
Pronation and
Supination and excessive stress and shock can also
contribute to the formation of a bone spur.
Bone spurs are very common in adults with extreme foot arches like
flat feet or high arches. Many times bone spurs are accompanied by other painful conditions including
plantar fasciitis,
foot pad loss,
Achilles tendonitis,
arch pain, and other foot related medical conditions.
Bone spurs are
more prevalent in people who spend a lot of time on their feet,
in athletes who participate in high impact sports, in people
who are overweight or obese, and in people with
poor circulation in the feet, although these factors are
not always the cause of bone spurs. Bone spur pain is
usually the most painful when first attempting to walk after
sitting or resting.
Another highly probable cause of bone spurs is thought to be wearing
shoes that offer little or no arch support or
protection.
What are the Most Common Treatments
for Bone Spurs:
There are
many treatments for bone spurs, heel spurs, and plantar fasciitis
pain. In cases of severe pain it is always recommended
you see a doctor. For temporary or in some cases,
prolonged relief, many sufferers of bone spurs have turned
to replacement shoe insoles. Other treatments may
include ultra sound shock wave therapy, long periods of time
spent off the feet, and surgery to
remove the bone spurs.

How Can Foot Relief
Shoe Insoles Help Relieve Bone Spur Pain?
In many
cases where a patient has foot pain caused by bone spurs or
plantar fasciitis
including a heel spur, health care professionals will often
recommend supplementing treatment with a foot cushioning
device or even a full length insole that provides
arch support and padding. Many sufferers of
bone spurs have turned to Foot Relief
liquid filled shoe insoles as the
shoe inserts of choice for helping to relieve foot pain.
Liquid filled shoe insoles absorb much more shock than
standard foam insoles and massage the feet which increases
circulation. Removing shock from the feet can be very helpful in
the healing process of bone spurs.
